Commercial Operation Announcement
NTPC Limited has declared the commercial operation of 100 MW capacity at its Ramagundam Solar PV Project, located in the Peddapalli district of Telangana. The 100 MW unit attained Commercial Operation Date (COD) status effective May 2, 2026. This addition contributes to the phased expansion of the site’s renewable energy infrastructure.
Project Scope and Infrastructure Details
The operational 100 MW capacity is a component of the total 176 MW project capacity at the Ramagundam site. The infrastructure utilizes a hybrid configuration consisting of ground-mounted solar and floating solar PV systems. Technical specifications include the deployment of high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and modular floating platforms designed to minimize water evaporation and optimize land use. The completed 176 MW project is estimated to have an annual generation potential of 223 million units of electricity.
In a related technical development, NTPC has issued a turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) tender for a 100 MW/400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Ramagundam location. This 4-hour duration system is designed for a 20-year service life and will interface with the grid via 33kV switchgear, further integrating storage capabilities into the site’s energy ecosystem.
NTPC Group Capacity Milestones
Following the May 2026 commissionings, the NTPC Group has exceeded the 90 GW capacity threshold. This was finalized following the May 22, 2026, commercial operation of an additional 110.25 MW solar capacity at the Khavda-I Solar PV Project in Gujarat. The Khavda project was executed by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).
The corporate capacity figures for the NTPC Group are detailed below:
| Metric | Capacity (MW) | Status |
| Total NTPC Group Installed Capacity | 90,025 | Installed |
| Total NTPC Group Commercial Capacity | 88,725 | Commercial |
Note: Total commercial capacity reached 90,025 MW following the completion of the Khavda-I project commissioning on May 22, 2026.
Fiscal Year 2025-26 Renewable Energy Context
During the 2025-26 fiscal year (FY26), the NTPC Group added a total of 5,488 MW of renewable energy capacity, encompassing solar, wind, and pumped storage projects. Of this total, 4,225 MW was commissioned specifically by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).
Key regional capacity contributions for the fiscal year include:
- Khavda Renewable Energy Park: 2,560 MW
- Bhadla: 500 MW
- Pavagada: 250 MW
- Kadapa: 250 MW
As of March 31, 2026, the total operational renewable energy capacity for NGEL reached 10,126 MW.
Long-Term Strategic Targets
NTPC has established the following official corporate targets for the year 2032:
- Renewable Energy Capacity: 60 GW.
- Total Group Generation Capacity: 149 GW.
- Pumped Hydro Storage (PSP): 1 GW.
- Battery Energy Storage (BESS): 22 GWh.
Planned Fuel Mix (2032)
The company’s projected 149 GW capacity for 2032 is based on the following fuel mix distribution:
| Source | Capacity (GW) | Capacity Mix (%) |
| Thermal | 83.6 | 56.11% |
| Renewables | 60.0 | 40.27% |
| Hydro | 4.7 | 3.15% |
| Nuclear | 0.7 | 0.47% |
| Total | 149.0 | 100% |
