Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has commenced commercial operations for 1,376 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity at the Khavda renewable energy plant in Gujarat. This deployment contributes to a total operational renewable energy portfolio of 19,294 MW. Following these additions, the company’s cumulative BESS capacity has reached 1.4 GWh for the 2026 financial year.

Project Execution and Global Ranking

The operationalization of the BESS capacity in Khavda represents one of the largest single-location battery deployments globally. During the 2026 financial year, AGEL added a total of 5.1 GW in greenfield capacity, which the company identifies as the highest annual greenfield expansion by any company globally, excluding China.

Project execution at the Khavda site is managed through Adani Infra (India) Limited (AIIL), utilizing a framework of project management and assurance to deliver infrastructure at scale. The Khavda renewable energy park is situated on 538 square kilometers of arid, non-cultivable land in Gujarat, an area approximately five times the size of Paris.

Strategic Roadmap and Future Targets

AGEL has outlined a secured growth path to expand its renewable energy and storage capabilities through the end of the decade:

  • FY27 Storage Goal: The company targets the addition of 10+ GWh of Front-of-the-Meter (FTM) BESS capacity.
  • Khavda Master Plan: AGEL intends to develop 30 GW of operational renewable energy capacity at the Khavda site by 2029.
  • 2030 Portfolio Target: The company is maintaining a strategic roadmap to reach a total of 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
  • Operational Excellence: Future growth is supported by the Energy Network Operations Center (ENOC) in Ahmedabad, which enables real-time monitoring and AI-driven predictive maintenance across 12 states.
