Overview of the Tender

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has issued an Invitation for Bids (IFB) on behalf of NTPC UP Green Energy Limited (NUGEL) for the development of a 50 MW / 200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. This procurement is structured as a domestic competitive bidding process for a turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package.

The storage system will be integrated with the infrastructure of an upcoming 100 MW solar power plant at the 33 kV pooling switchgear level. This specific pooling infrastructure is being established under a separate package. The selected contractor must fulfill all project requirements up to the Point of Interconnection (POI) with the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL) grid.

Technical Scope & Performance Metrics

The turnkey EPC responsibilities encompass the complete project lifecycle, including:

  • Detailed design and engineering.
  • Manufacturing, supply, packing, and forwarding.
  • Transportation, unloading, and site storage.
  • Installation, testing, and commissioning.

The BESS is required to have a design life of 25 years and must utilize batteries rated for a minimum of 10,000 operational cycles. To ensure the 200 MWh deliverable capacity, the contractor must provide a minimum installed nameplate capacity of 220 MWh. Engineering designs must account for a 1% power transformer loss and a 0.25% transmission line loss.

The following table outlines the mandatory performance parameters the system must maintain:

Performance ParameterRequirement
Round Trip Efficiency (RTE)Minimum 80% monthly (including auxiliary consumption)
System Availability98% monthly target
Dispatchable Capacity100% at CoD; 95% in Year 1; min 92% over 15-year O&M period

The contract includes a comprehensive Operations & Maintenance (O&M) period of 15 years, covering all warranties, insurance, and annual maintenance under a Service Level Agreement. The contractor is also responsible for power quality compliance and grid integration studies to ensure adherence to UPPTCL regulations.
