NTPC Limited Announces FY2025-26 Operational Milestones and Capacity Records

NTPC Limited has reported a total capacity addition of 9,619 MW for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. This performance establishes a record for capacity added by the Group within a single fiscal year.

Capacity Expansion and Operational Scale

As of April 1, 2026, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group is 89,108 MW. Following a clarification to regulatory filings submitted on the same date, the Group’s commercial capacity is recorded at 88,028 MW. In this context, commercial capacity refers to the portion of the installed base that is actively contributing to the grid and generating electricity, as distinct from the total installed capacity which includes all constructed units.

To support the expansion of its operational footprint, the Group currently has approximately 32 GW of capacity under construction. This development pipeline consists of a diverse technology mix, including 15,580 MW of coal-based projects (50%), 2,005 MW of hydroelectric projects (7%), and 13,268 MW of renewable energy projects (43%).

Renewable Energy and Diversification Milestones

In the fiscal year 2025-26, NTPC added 5,488 MW of renewable capacity. This expansion includes new installations across solar, wind, and Pumped Storage Projects (PSP). These milestones align with the company’s efforts to diversify its generation portfolio.

Strategic Targets for 2032

The Group has established long-term operational targets to be achieved by the year 2032. These objectives are intended to maintain a balanced and reliable generation mix to support national energy security.

  • 2032 Total Capacity Target: 149 GW. This goal comprises a mix of thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants.
  • 2032 Renewable Energy Target: 60 GW.

Production and Trading Growth

Operational growth was also recorded in the company’s auxiliary business areas during the fiscal year. Coal production reached 48.65 million tonnes, representing a year-on-year growth of 6.22%. Additionally, the power trading segment recorded a 13% year-on-year increase, with total volume reaching 46.52 billion units. Final figures for ash utilization reached 105%, involving the management of 109 million tonnes.
