Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has commissioned the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for the evacuation of 8.1 GW from solar energy zones in Rajasthan. Developed under Phase-II (Parts E and G) through wholly owned subsidiaries, the infrastructure enables the transfer of renewable energy to the national grid using 765 kV corridors.
Phase-II Part-E: POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Limited
The Part-E segment of the project was executed by POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary. The infrastructure for this segment includes a 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-II–Sikar-II transmission line.
The project was secured through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) procurement method. Physical commissioning of the transmission line was completed on January 14, 2026, and the commencement of commercial operation followed on January 16, 2026.
Phase-II Part-G: POWERGRID Narela Transmission Limited
The Part-G segment was implemented by the subsidiary POWERGRID Narela Transmission Limited. This project involved the establishment of a 765/400 kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) at Narela, Delhi, with a transformation capacity of 3×1500 MVA, associated bus reactors, and line bays.
The associated line infrastructure consists of the Khetri–Narela 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, which has a route length of 180 km, and two 765 kV line bays at Khetri. Operational specifications for the Narela substation include the loop-in and loop-out of the 765 kV Meerut–Bhiwani single-circuit line. All project elements were fully commissioned as of December 7, 2025, and the Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) was issued on February 24, 2026.
