Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) issued an Invitation for Bids (IFB) on March 30, 2026, for the turnkey development of a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project involves the deployment of a distributed 120 kW BESS designed to enhance grid stability and renewable energy integration in the high-altitude region of Sikkim. This procurement emphasizes a fully integrated system approach to manage localized energy demands and intermittent renewable supply.

Technical Scope of Work

The project is structured as a comprehensive turnkey contract. The selected bidder is responsible for the following technical and operational requirements:

  • Executing complete system design and engineering.
  • Procuring and supplying all fully integrated BESS components.
  • Performing site installation, comprehensive testing, and commissioning.
  • Providing bidirectional Power Conditioning Systems (PCS/inverters) to manage energy flow for grid stability.
  • Managing logistics, including transportation and secure on-site storage.
  • Securing transit and all-risk insurance coverage until the formal project handover.

Project Specifications and Performance Standards

The selection of LFP chemistry for this deployment is technically predicated on its thermal stability. In the Indian context, LFP is preferred for its ability to maintain performance at ambient temperatures exceeding 45°C–50°C, providing a distinct safety and lifecycle advantage over Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistries in rugged terrains.
