Commissioning Overview
Vadodara-based GB Solar Technologies has commissioned its 2 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat. Part of the Epoxy House Group, the new plant scales the company’s production capacity to meet the requirements of the domestic renewable energy market. The facility is located in the Vadodara district, expanding the group’s established manufacturing footprint in the state.
Technical Specifications and Facility Infrastructure
The Karjan facility utilizes an integrated manufacturing approach featuring fully automated production lines. The infrastructure is engineered to produce 144-cell (24 x 6) modules using both N-Type TOPCon and Mono PERC cell technologies. To ensure high-end TOPCon performance standards and long-term reliability, the modules utilize 16BB (busbar) technology and specific encapsulants, including Polyolefin Elastomer (POE) for the front side and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) for the back side. These configurations are available in Bifacial (Glass-to-Glass) designs.
The following table summarizes the technical parameters for the module series manufactured at this facility:
| Technical Parameter | Specification |
| Technology Types | N-Type TOPCon and Mono PERC |
| Configuration | 144-cell (24 x 6) |
| Power Range | 570 Wp – 600 Wp |
| Module Efficiency | Up to 23.24% (at STC) |
| Bifaciality | 70 +/- 5% |
| Operational Conditions | Temperature range of -40°C to +85°C |
Financial Investment and Regulatory Compliance
The commissioning represents a total greenfield investment of ₹2.5 Billion (INR 250 Crore). The facility’s output is BIS-approved and adheres to international quality standards, holding certifications including IS 14286, IEC 61215, IEC 61730, and IEC 62804.
The operationalization of this facility coincides with the June 1, 2026, deadline set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the implementation of ALMM List-II. This regulatory framework mandates the sourcing of solar PV cells from approved domestic manufacturers for government-assisted projects, schemes, and competitive bidding under Section 63 of the Electricity Act. While the MNRE has provided limited relief for specific open-access and net-metering projects that achieved development milestones prior to the deadline, no blanket extensions were granted. This 2 GW facility is positioned to address the resulting demand for modules that comply with these domestic cell-sourcing requirements.
