Navgrun, the solar brand of Nithin Sai Renewables Pvt. Ltd., has announced a strategic backward integration move to establish a 1.2 GW annual manufacturing facility for advanced TOPCon G12R solar wafers and cells. The facility will be located in the Mastenahalli Industrial Area, Chikkaballapur, Karnataka. This new capacity is designed to complement the company’s existing 700 MW TOPCon G12R solar module production site, positioning the entity as a vertically integrated player in the Indian market.

Vertical Integration and Capacity Breakdown

According to the company, the expansion enables full-chain control over the manufacturing process, encompassing the production of TOPCon G12R solar wafers, solar cells, and advanced modules. By transitioning from module assembly to a vertically integrated ecosystem, the company intends to secure its internal supply of high-efficiency N-type components.

Technical Scope and Product Portfolio

The upcoming facility will focus exclusively on high-efficiency N-type Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) technology. The planned product lines include TOPCon G12R wafers and cells, as well as advanced solar modules.

The company stated that the site will also produce Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions through a strategic partnership and licensing agreement with the Dutch innovator Kameleon Solar. This line utilizes ColorBlast® BIPV technology, which offers a palette of over 1000 standard colors and ensures batch-to-batch color stability for over 50 years. These BIPV modules are engineered with a glass-glass build utilizing High Transmittance Tempered ARC Glass to maintain high-efficiency generation while meeting architectural aesthetic requirements.

Strategic Intent and Regulatory Alignment

The announcement highlighted that the investment aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing and improve supply chain resilience in alignment with India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) objectives. This strategic pivot comes as the industry prepares for a tightening regulatory environment.

According to analysis by Wood Mackenzie, utility-scale system prices in India are forecast to rise 20% by Q4 2026 due to an impending domestic cell supply crunch. This market pressure is driven by government mandates requiring projects to source modules from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-I and cells from ALMM List-II. Navgrun’s expansion is also positioned to address the upcoming ALMM List-III mandate, which is expected to extend domestic content requirements to solar wafers by June 2028.
