Jyoti Structures Limited, a Mumbai-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company focused on power transmission, has received a Notification of Award (NOA) from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) for Package TL05 of the ±800 kV HVDC Bipole Barmer-II and South Kalamb Transmission Lines project. The package is located in Gujarat. The company disclosed the award to BSE and NSE on 28 October 2026 under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations. The order is valued at ₹648.91 crore, excluding GST, and carries a completion period of 38 months from the date of the NOA.

What the order covers

The scope of Package TL05 is the supply, erection, testing and commissioning of ±800 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line on a total turnkey basis. In its filing the company stated that none of its promoter or promoter group entities has any interest in the awarding entity, and that the order does not fall within the purview of related party transactions.

The award follows two other packages from the same project. On 26 October 2026, Jyoti Structures received orders from POWERGRID for Packages TL01 and TL02 in Rajasthan, worth a combined ₹949.35 crore. With TL05 added, the three awards total ₹1,598.26 crore, excluding GST. The company’s recent order wins also include a ₹689.93 crore contract from Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) for the 765 kV double-circuit Pachchham–Saykha transmission line in Gujarat, and it is executing a 220 kV double-circuit line in Sri Lanka with Hayleys Fentons Limited to help evacuate wind power to that country’s national grid.

The project behind the packages

The Barmer-II–South Kalamb scheme is an inter-state transmission system designed to evacuate renewable power from the Barmer complex in Rajasthan. It is formally tied to Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone Phase IV, Part 5, which is configured for 6 GW of solar capacity. POWERGRID was declared the successful bidder through tariff-based competitive bidding and received the Letter of Intent on 2 September 2026. The project is structured on a build, own, operate and transfer basis, with quoted annual transmission charges of ₹3,244.33 crore.

The scheme includes 6,000 MW, ±800 kV HVDC terminals at Barmer-II in Rajasthan and at South Kalamb in Maharashtra, along with augmentation of the South Kalamb substation. A bipole HVDC line of roughly 1,000 km will link the two terminals, passing through Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The project also includes 400 kV lines in Rajasthan with associated bays and two synchronous condenser units at the Barmer-II power station.

Why HVDC for this corridor

HVDC technology is generally chosen for bulk power transfer over long distances because it loses less energy per kilometre than alternating-current lines at comparable capacity and needs a narrower right of way. At ±800 kV, a bipole link can move several thousand megawatts of power across state boundaries with fewer lines. Rajasthan has some of India’s best solar resources, but the largest demand centres lie hundreds of kilometres away in the west and south, so large evacuation corridors are essential if new solar capacity is to reach consumers.

About the contractor

Jyoti Structures was incorporated in 1974 and describes itself as having more than five decades of experience in power transmission EPC. Its work spans design and engineering, manufacturing, prototype tower testing, construction and project management, covering high-voltage transmission lines, substations, underground cabling and optical ground wire (OPGW) projects in India and international markets. The company says it has built more than 37,600 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and delivered more than 1,800 high-voltage substation bays.

Its prototype tower testing facility at Ghoti, near Nashik, tests tower designs under prescribed load conditions and has testing capability up to 1,200 kV. Amit Dutta, Chief Operating Officer, said the engineering and execution of ±800 kV HVDC lines involve complex technical requirements and close coordination across multiple project stages, and that the company’s integrated capabilities, from design and engineering to manufacturing, prototype tower testing and site execution, let it address these requirements in a coordinated manner.

What it means for India’s clean-energy sector

Transmission has become one of the main constraints on India’s renewable-energy build-out. Solar and wind capacity can often be commissioned faster than the lines needed to carry the power away, which can leave generation waiting for grid connectivity. Large HVDC corridors such as Barmer-II–South Kalamb address that gap directly, by creating a high-capacity path from a 6 GW generation cluster in Rajasthan to load centres in Maharashtra and the western grid.

For the supply chain, the award shows how a single transmission project is divided into several packages that are awarded to different EPC contractors. With a 38-month completion period for each package counted from its own NOA, the works under TL05 will run for more than three years, which indicates the multi-year nature of the build.

Several points are not disclosed in the company’s filing. It does not state the length of the TL05 stretch, the number of towers, or the completion date of the full project. For now, the confirmed facts are the value, scope, location and 38-month schedule of Package TL05, together with the combined ₹1,598.26 crore value of the three Jyoti Structures packages under the Barmer-II–South Kalamb project.
