The Ahmedabad-based electric vehicle manufacturer will utilize the capital to finalize its next product cycle and aggressively scale manufacturing throughput. This latest tranche brings Matter’s total capital raised to approximately ₹1,000 crore. To date, the company has deployed over ₹750 crore into research and development and its manufacturing infrastructure, facilitating the transition into commercial production which commenced in October 2024.

New Product Cycle: The AERA Platform

Matter is preparing to launch four new electric motorcycles over the next 12–24 months. These models are engineered on the proprietary AERA platform, sharing a common in-house powertrain, battery architecture, and software stack to optimize R&D efficiency.

The product roadmap, guided by 10 million kilometers of real-world usage data from the AERA 5000 series, specifies the following releases:

  • 2026: Launch of premium variants targeting the 150cc–200cc ICE equivalent segment.
  • 2027: Launch of models targeting the 125cc ICE equivalent segment.
  • Price Ceiling: New models are expected to be positioned within the ₹1.6 lakh to ₹2.2 lakh price bracket.

Technical Profile and Intellectual Property

Matter’s differentiation strategy relies on vertical integration, working with a network of over 150 suppliers to manufacture its proprietary systems. The AERA platform is notable for being the first Indian electric motorcycle to utilize a multi-speed manual transmission.

  • Transmission: HyperShift 4-speed manual system with clutch and foot shifter.
  • Powertrain: 10–11.5 kW interior permanent magnet synchronous motor.
  • Battery System: 5 kWh liquid-cooled, IP67-rated battery pack.
  • Thermal Management: Integrated Intelligent Thermal Management System (IITMS).
  • On-board Computing: 7-inch touchscreen powered by a state-of-the-art processor with 3GB RAM.
  • Sensors: 9-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) for advanced vehicle dynamics.
  • Charging: On-board system compatible with standard 5-amp household sockets.

The company holds 111 granted patents and was recognized with the 2025 CII Industrial Intellectual Property Award for the Best Patent Portfolio in its category.

Company Background and Competitive Context

Founded in 2019 by Mohal Lalbhai, Matter Motor Works operates its corporate headquarters and primary manufacturing facility in Changodar, Ahmedabad. The current plant maintains an installed annual capacity of 1.2 lakh units.

In the premium and performance-oriented electric motorcycle sector, Matter competes against several well-capitalized incumbents:
