Mumbai-based JSW Energy Limited has raised its total installed generation capacity to 15,237 MW after adding 1,784 MW since April 2026, according to a stock exchange disclosure filed on 6 November 2026. Renewable projects account for 1,484 MW of the additions, with the remainder coming from the 300 MW Maruti Clean Coal & Power thermal plant the company acquired in August 2026. That is 90 MW more than on 5 October 2026, as the company works towards a 3 GW renewable addition target for FY27.
Key Details
According to the company’s media release, the capacity added in FY27 to date comprises:
- Solar: 624 MW
- Wind: 108 MW
- Hybrid: 601 MW
- Hydro: 150 MW
- Thermal (acquired): 300 MW of Maruti Clean Coal & Power Ltd
Compared with the 5 October 2026 update, solar additions rose by 31 MW and hybrid additions by 59 MW, while the wind, hydro and thermal figures were unchanged. Renewable energy now makes up about 61% of the operational portfolio, or 9,279 MW. That consists of 3,125 MW of wind, 2,457 MW of solar, 1,916 MW of hybrid and 1,781 MW of hydro capacity. The thermal portfolio stands at 5,958 MW.
The disclosure does not name the projects commissioned since 5 October, their locations or their buyers, and it does not say when each block reached commercial operation.
Portfolio and Targets
Beyond its operating fleet, JSW Energy says it has 15.3 GW under construction and a development pipeline of 2.4 GW. A further 2.0 GW of group captive opportunities is under advanced discussion, out of 4.5 GW of signed memoranda of understanding. The company is targeting 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Its Q2 FY27 results presentation shows locked-in storage capacity of 29.6 GWh. That comprises 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The presentation also says the company is targeting 1.0 GWh of BESS by FY27.
Management Comment
The 6 November release carries no management quote. In the company’s 5 October 2026 release, Joint Managing Director and CEO Sharad Mahendra said JSW Energy had commissioned 1.4 GW of renewable capacity in the first half of FY27. He said the company remained on track to deliver the balance 1.6 GW during the year. Mahendra added that the remaining capacity was de-risked, with land, transmission connectivity and equipment supply in place.
Policy Backdrop
Inaugurating the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi on 2 November 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India had achieved nearly 300 GW towards its target of 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030. He announced a goal to add another 500 GW of new non-fossil capacity over the next 10 to 11 years. The Prime Minister also called for indigenous storage hardware and new battery storage capacity to support that growth.

The Company’s Recent Pipeline
- July 2026: JSW Energy PSP Eleven Limited secured orders worth ₹443.74 crore from Bondada Renewable Energy for 200 MW / 400 MWh of BESS and power conversion system (PCS) solutions; the subsidiary operates a 5 GWh per annum battery assembly plant in Pune.
- August 2026: completed the acquisition of Maruti Clean Coal & Power Limited, which owns a 300 MW thermal plant at Korba, Chhattisgarh, taking installed capacity to 14,835 MW.
- August 2026: subsidiary JSW Neo Energy signed a shareholders’ agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation to jointly develop the 920 MW Punatsangchhu-III hydroelectric project in Bhutan, in which JSW Neo will hold 49% and Druk Green Power 51%.
- July–September 2026 (Q2 FY27): completed turbine-generator orders for the entire 3.2 GW (4 x 800 MW) Salboni thermal project in West Bengal, according to the results presentation.
- October 2026: installed capacity reached 15,147 MW after 1,694 MW of additions since April 2026.
- November 2026: India Ratings and Research assigned IND AA-/Stable ratings to the bank loans of three wind subsidiaries: JSW Wind Power (Pennar) Private Limited, JSW Wind Power Limited and JSW Wind Power (Isapur) Limited.
Outlook
The company’s results presentation shows 1,606 MW of capacity planned for the second half of FY27, spread across 30 projects. Delivering that would complete the 3 GW renewable target for the year. The presentation puts H1 FY27 organic capital expenditure at ₹8,114 crore, or 41% of the company’s FY27 guidance of ₹20,000 crore. Mahendra said in October that a favourable construction season in the second half supports the annual target, which the company describes as a milestone towards 30 GW by FY30.
