Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited (Tata Power), has commissioned a 300 MW solar project in Koppal, Karnataka, that will supply power to Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The parent company announced the commissioning in a press release filed with the stock exchanges on 5 November 2026. The company expects the plant to generate 810 million units (MUs) of electricity a year. The company said the project strengthens TPREL’s portfolio of utility-scale renewable projects.
Key Details
The project was developed by TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL. According to the press release, its main features are:
- Capacity and buyer: 300 MW of solar capacity, with the power sold to SECI
- Expected output: 810 MUs of renewable electricity a year
- Emissions: an estimated 103,820 tonnes of carbon dioxide avoided each year
- Trackers: solar trackers that move the modules with the sun to optimise generation
- Modules: TP580HG10NB bifacial modules
The company says the combination of tracking and bifacial modules makes efficient use of the site and raises output. It also said that around 16 women professionals, nearly 40% of the site workforce, worked in roles that included site manager and site engineer. The press release does not disclose the tariff, the length of the power purchase agreement, the project cost, the exact commissioning date or the substation to which the plant is connected.
Portfolio Position
With the Koppal addition, the company said TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12 GW. Of this, around 7.2 GW is operational, including 5.8 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind, while close to 4.9 GW is at various stages of implementation.
TPREL reported in its quarterly execution update of 12 October 2026 that it commissioned 419 MW of utility-scale projects in the second quarter of 2026-27 (Q2 FY27), against 182 MW in the same quarter a year earlier. It also executed 131.2 MWh of battery storage projects in that quarter, of which 101.2 MWh was for TPREL’s own use and 30 MWh for third-party customers. First-half execution reached 645 MW of utility-scale projects and 161.2 MWh of storage.
Policy Backdrop
For context, inaugurating the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi on 2 November 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India had achieved nearly 300 GW towards its target of 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030. He announced a goal to add another 500 GW of new non-fossil capacity over the next 10 to 11 years. He also said that meeting these goals requires next-generation innovation, indigenous storage hardware and new battery storage capacity.

It has more than 7,800 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, including pipeline projects, and serves over 13 million distribution customers.
Tata Power also has 4.9 GW of integrated solar cell and module manufacturing capacity and has signed 2.8 GW of pumped hydro storage projects. Its electric vehicle (EV) charging network covers over 7,000 public charging points across 717 cities and towns. The company targets net zero by 2045.
The Company’s Recent Pipeline
- October 2026 (8 October): TP Solar, Tata Power’s solar manufacturing arm and a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL, reported production of 1 GW of modules and 0.9 GW of cells in Q2 FY27 at its 4.3 GW cell and module plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, in which TPREL has invested nearly ₹4,300 crore. First-half output reached 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells, and the modules are compliant with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
- October 2026 (12 October): TPREL listed its first-half commissionings, including the 100.8 MW Jewali wind project, the Kalasar firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project with 227.5 MW of solar and a 101.2 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), the 100 MW Kayathar group captive project and the 72.5 MW Tata Steel captive project.
- October 2026 (14 October): Tata Power said it is pursuing a data centre opportunity pipeline of over 2.8 GW across 18 operators.
- October 2026 (27 October): Tata Power signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to build 110 kV infrastructure for a 90 MW load at BPCL’s Mumbai Refinery.
Outlook
TPREL expects to execute more than 2 GW of projects in the second half of 2026-27, comprising 1,075 MW of solar, 969 MW of wind and 274 MWh of BESS, according to its 12 October update. A further 300 MW of third-party projects is also due in that period. By the end of the financial year, the company expects close to 9.3 GW of projects to have been executed, including 6,899 MW of solar, 2,298 MW of wind and 555.2 MWh of battery storage. The balance of about 2.6 GW, including 1,700 MW of wind, is scheduled for 2027-28 and would take TPREL’s operational capacity to about 12 GW.
