Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, commissioned 419 MW of utility-scale renewable energy capacity in the second quarter of FY27 (July–September 2026), along with 131.2 MWh of battery energy storage projects. Announced on October 12, 2026, the quarterly figure represents growth of more than 130% over the 182 MW of utility-scale capacity the company executed in the corresponding quarter of FY26.

Alongside the quarterly results, the company outlined a larger commissioning programme for the second half of the financial year and its project pipeline for FY28.

Storage Split Between In-House and Third-Party Projects

Of the 131.2 MWh of storage executed in Q2 FY27, 101.2 MWh is in-house capacity owned by TPREL, while the remaining 30 MWh was delivered for third-party customers. The in-house figure matches the 101.2 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) installed at the company’s Kalasar Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project in Rajasthan.

Across the first half of FY27, TPREL executed a total of 645 MW of utility-scale projects and 161.2 MWh of storage. Of the half-year storage total, 101.2 MWh is in-house and 60 MWh has been delivered to third-party customers.

Key Projects Commissioned During H1 FY27

Kalasar FDRE Project, Bikaner, Rajasthan: The largest addition of the half-year combines 227.5 MW of solar capacity with a 101.2 MWh BESS. Developed under SJVN’s FDRE Tranche-1, it forms part of TPREL’s 460 MW contracted FDRE capacity and will supply power to Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL). Alongside the battery system, the project deploys a harmonic filter bank and static VAR generator systems. Despite compressed timelines and supply chain disruptions, the switchyard was completed within three months and the harmonic filter bank within one month.

Jewali Wind Project, Dharashiv, Maharashtra: The 100.8 MW wind farm comprises 28 SG 3.6-145 wind turbine generators. Its output is supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to help meet the utility’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets. The project is expected to generate approximately 299 million units annually and offset about 245 million kg of CO₂ emissions each year.

Kayathar Group Captive Project, Tamil Nadu: The 100 MW solar plant (TNGC-2), located at Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages, supplies power to three Tata Group companies: TP Solar (40.625 MW), Tata Electronics (53.125 MW) and Tata Realty and Infrastructure (6.25 MW). It marks the first deployment of Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) single-axis tracker technology in India for a Tata project, uses 2,61,660 mono PERC bifacial modules, and evacuates power through the Kayathar 400 kV grid substation. Expected annual generation is 240.63 million units.

Tata Steel Captive Project, Bikaner, Rajasthan: The 72.5 MW solar plant at Kalasar was developed for Tata Steel through TP Vardhman Surya Limited, a TPREL subsidiary. It uses 1,71,360 modules manufactured by TP Solar and is expected to generate 166 million units of green energy annually, offsetting around 1,18,856 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

Operational Portfolio Reaches 7.2 GW

With these additions, TPREL’s utility-scale operational portfolio stands at 7.2 GW, comprising 5.8 GW of solar, 1.3 GW of wind and 281.2 MWh of battery storage. The company’s total renewable utility capacity is 12.4 GW, with contracted power purchase agreement (PPA) capacity of 10.1 GW and 5.2 GW of projects under various stages of implementation. TPREL attributed the quarter’s delivery to its supply chain resilience, experienced partners and project management capabilities.

Larger Pipeline Scheduled for H2 FY27 and FY28

TPREL expects to execute more than 2 GW of in-house projects in the second half of FY27, comprising 1,075 MW of solar, 969 MW of wind and 274 MWh of BESS. A further 300 MW of third-party projects is scheduled for the same period. If delivered as planned, the company’s executed portfolio will reach close to 9.3 GW by the end of FY27, including 6,899 MW of solar, 2,298 MW of wind and 555.2 MWh of battery storage.

The balance of roughly 2.6 GW, consisting of 570 MW of solar, 1,700 MW of wind and 350 MWh of battery storage, is slated for completion in FY28, which the company says will take its overall operational capacity to around 12 GW.

Manufacturing and Rooftop Segments Also Report Q2 Growth

The utility-scale update follows two other Q2 FY27 operational disclosures from TPREL. TP Solar, its manufacturing arm, produced 1 GW of modules and 0.9 GW of cells during the quarter, taking H1 FY27 output to 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells. Its 4.3 GW cell and module facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, is described by the company as one of India’s largest single-location plants of its kind. In rooftop solar, TPREL added 88,397 installations and 426 MWp of capacity in Q2 FY27, up 33% and 15% year-on-year respectively, taking H1 FY27 totals to more than 168,530 installations and 801 MWp.

Across H2 FY27 and FY28, TPREL plans to add a further 624 MWh of battery storage, more than double the 281.2 MWh currently in operation, as Tata Power works towards its target of achieving Net Zero by 2045.
