The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is organising the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026 from 2 to 5 November 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate it on 2 November. In a release issued through the Press Information Bureau on 28 October 2026, the ministry said participants from over 130 countries are expected. The four-day event carries the theme “Invest. Innovate. Inspire.” and is designed to connect global capital, technology and industry with India’s renewable energy projects.

What the ministry said

Santosh Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE, addressed media persons on 28 October. He said India’s clean energy transition is entering a decisive phase and that, with 308 GW of installed non-fossil fuel capacity, the country is on course to reach its 500 GW target by 2030. According to him, realising that ambition will require approximately USD 220 billion of investment between 2027 and 2030, alongside faster deployment of energy storage, stronger transmission networks and expanded domestic manufacturing capabilities.

The release adds that India ranks third globally in renewable energy and solar installed capacity and fourth in wind power capacity. It also cites BloombergNEF data showing that India invested USD 63.7 billion in its renewable energy sector during July 2024 to June 2026.

Who is taking part

The summit is expected to bring together ministers, policymakers, industry leaders, investors, financial institutions, manufacturers, innovators, researchers and representatives of multilateral organisations. Nine country partners have been named: Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Delegations from other countries are also expected, with the stated aim of exploring cooperation in renewable energy financing, green hydrogen, energy storage, clean energy manufacturing and technology development.

On the domestic side, thirteen states are participating as Partner States: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. They will showcase their renewable energy potential, investment opportunities, policy initiatives and manufacturing capabilities, and other participating states will also present development and investment opportunities.

Programme and co-located events

The programme includes high-level plenaries, ministerial discussions, CEO roundtables, and country and state sessions focused on financing, policy, technology and skilling. Topics listed by the ministry cover clean energy investment, emerging technologies, manufacturing, energy storage and workforce development, with an emphasis on technology exchange, scalable solutions, and greater participation and leadership by women in the global energy transition.

The summit is being held alongside two other events: the 9th Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH). The ministry says the three events will provide a common platform for discussions on renewable energy investment, international cooperation, emerging technologies and clean energy deployment.

As the apex decision-making body of the ISA, the Assembly will bring together ministers and representatives from Signatory and Member Countries to set priorities and guide collective action on solar deployment, financing and capacity building. The release notes that India’s flagship initiatives such as PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar are being used as models, with the ISA helping countries adapt and scale proven solutions through country-led programmes, investment mobilisation and institutional partnerships.

Exhibition, hackathon and youth initiatives

An accompanying exhibition will feature more than 400 manufacturers, developers, technology providers, public and private sector companies, startups and research institutions from India and abroad. It is meant to showcase emerging technologies and to offer opportunities for business networking, investment facilitation and technology partnerships. The summit will also offer business-to-business, business-to-government and government-to-government engagements, connecting investors, manufacturers, technology providers and government representatives to explore project development.

The summit will recognise the winners of the Bharat Renewable Energy Hackathon 2026, a pre-event initiative that brought together students, startups, researchers and innovators to develop solutions to ten real-world renewable energy challenges across two tracks, Early Stage and Growth Stage. The National Renewable Energy Quiz 2026, conducted through regional rounds across the country, will conclude with its Grand Finale at Bharat Mandapam. A REGen Pavilion will give students, young innovators, entrepreneurs and researchers a dedicated platform to present ideas and engage with industry leaders. What it means for India’s clean-energy sector

The summit gives developers, equipment makers and financiers a single venue to meet buyers, state governments and overseas capital providers. The ministry’s emphasis on storage, transmission and domestic manufacturing alongside generation capacity signals the areas where it expects investment to be directed as India works towards 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.

The 308 GW figure is the ministry’s own statement of installed non-fossil fuel capacity, and the 500 GW target is for 2030. The gap of 192 GW between the two, calculated from these figures, is the capacity that has to be added in the remaining years, and the USD 220 billion estimate is the ministry’s view of what 2027 to 2030 will require.

For international participants, the presence of nine country partners and the co-located ISA Assembly places India’s domestic programmes within a wider conversation about financing for emerging economies and the Global South. Outcomes such as investment announcements, partnerships or agreements will depend on what is concluded at the event; the release lists no specific deals in advance.
