Powertrac Group has announced plans to establish a 10 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, expanding its capabilities in the battery storage sector. The proposed facility will focus on the manufacturing of containerized BESS solutions for commercial and industrial (C&I) and utility-scale applications.
The manufacturing campus will cover approximately five acres and will integrate Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Pack-to-Container (PTC) manufacturing capabilities within a single facility. Powertrac also plans to incorporate fully robotic automation and Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) technology into the manufacturing operations.
Integrated BESS Manufacturing
The planned facility will bring together different stages of BESS production, covering the manufacturing process from battery cells to finished containerized energy storage systems. The integration of CTP and PTC capabilities is expected to support Powertrac’s manufacturing operations as it expands its BESS production capacity.
According to Energetica India, Kishorsinh Zala, Chairman of Powertrac Group, said the advanced manufacturing facility is being developed to manufacture BESS containers for the C&I and utility-scale markets. The company is also preparing to introduce its BESS containers in India under the Powertrac brand.
Energetica India reported that Powertrac expects its BESS containers to be available in India by October 2026. The reported solution will have a capacity of up to 5 MW, while the production line and raw materials are expected to be sourced from a technology provider. The company has also stated that the BESS containers will have the required certifications.
Applications of Powertrac’s BESS
The planned manufacturing facility will support several energy-storage applications, including:
- Commercial & Industrial (C&I) applications
- Utility-scale energy storage projects
- Grid-connected energy storage
- Renewable energy projects
- Renewable-plus-storage and hybrid energy projects
These applications position the planned facility toward both commercial customers and larger energy-storage projects. The company is developing its manufacturing capabilities as demand for containerized BESS solutions increases across different segments of the energy sector.
Earlier BESS Manufacturing Investment
The 10 GWh facility follows Powertrac’s earlier investment in domestic BESS manufacturing.
In February 2026, Powertrac announced an investment of ₹600 crore to establish a 1,000 MWh-per-year, or 1 GWh, containerized BESS manufacturing facility. The earlier facility focuses on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery-pack assembly, along with in-house battery management system (BMS) development and integration. It is also planned to produce 1–5 MWh modular containerized grid-scale BESS systems and support solar-plus-BESS hybrid energy solutions.
The earlier project established a foundation for Powertrac’s BESS manufacturing activities, while the newly announced 10 GWh facility represents a larger manufacturing development focused on containerized energy storage systems.
Battery Cell Information
For the new 10 GWh facility, the available reports confirm the integration of Cell-to-Pack manufacturing, but they do not disclose the specific battery-cell manufacturer, cell format, cell capacity or cell model to be used.
Therefore, specific cell sizes or manufacturers should not be attributed to Powertrac’s new facility based on the available reports. The battery-cell information reported for Powertrac’s earlier facility, including LFP battery-pack assembly, should also be treated separately from the specifications of the newly announced 10 GWh project.
Expanding BESS Manufacturing Capacity
Powertrac’s planned 10 GWh manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad will combine CTP and PTC capabilities with robotic automation and AGV-based operations. The facility is intended to support the company’s BESS container manufacturing activities across C&I, utility-scale, grid-connected and renewable-energy applications.
The project builds on Powertrac’s earlier investment in a 1 GWh-per-year BESS manufacturing facility and its continuing expansion into containerized energy storage solutions. With the planned 10 GWh manufacturing capacity, Powertrac is further expanding its presence in India’s domestic BESS manufacturing sector.
According to Energetica India, the company expects its BESS containers to enter the Indian market under the Powertrac brand from October 2026, subject to the company’s stated manufacturing and certification plans.
