Bondada Engineering Limited has incorporated Bondada Hindupur BESS Project Private Limited as a wholly owned subsidiary to develop, own, operate and maintain a 225 MW/450 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Andhra Pradesh.

The project was awarded by the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APTRANSCO) under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model. The newly incorporated entity will serve as the dedicated special-purpose vehicle (SPV) for the project, with responsibilities covering project financing, procurement, construction, commissioning, ownership, operation and maintenance, as applicable under the project agreements.

Bondada’s official information confirms that the Hindupur BESS project has a value of approximately ₹627 crore and is scheduled for completion within 18 months from receipt of the Letter of Award (LoA).

Dedicated SPV for the Hindupur BESS Project

The incorporation of Bondada Hindupur BESS Project Private Limited establishes a separate corporate entity for implementing the storage project.

According to the company’s regulatory disclosure, Bondada Engineering subscribed to 100,000 equity shares of ₹10 each, representing an initial investment of ₹10 lakh, with the new company established as a wholly owned subsidiary. The SPV’s stated scope covers the development and execution of the project, including financing, procurement, construction, commissioning, ownership, operation and maintenance.

The formation of the project company represents an execution step following Bondada Engineering’s award from APTRANSCO. It does not indicate that the BESS has been commissioned; the project remains in the development and execution stage.

225 MW/450 MWh Standalone BESS at Hindupur

The Hindupur project has a rated power capacity of 225 MW and an energy-storage capacity of 450 MWh, giving it a nominal two-hour storage duration.

The project forms part of APTRANSCO’s broader procurement of standalone BESS capacity in Andhra Pradesh. The Request for Selection issued for Phase II sought developers for a cumulative 1,000 MW/2,000 MWh of standalone BESS capacity across selected APTRANSCO substations under a tariff-based competitive bidding process with viability gap funding support through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). The projects were to be developed under the BOO model.

Bondada Engineering secured the 225 MW/450 MWh Hindupur package in this procurement. The company’s January 2026 announcement confirmed the APTRANSCO award at a total consideration of approximately ₹627 crore and an 18-month execution period from the LoA.

Part of Andhra Pradesh’s Larger Storage Procurement

The Hindupur project is one component of APTRANSCO’s 1,000 MW/2,000 MWh BESS procurement.

The tender covered multiple substations in Andhra Pradesh, with projects structured as two-hour storage systems. The procurement was designed to provide standalone storage capacity for on-demand use under agreements involving APTRANSCO and the state’s distribution utilities.

Bondada’s 225 MW/450 MWh award therefore represents 22.5% of the total 1,000 MW capacity covered by the procurement.

The project also expands Bondada Engineering’s BESS portfolio. The company has stated that its cumulative BESS portfolio reached nearly 1 GWh following the APTRANSCO award.

BOO Model and Project Development

Under the Build-Own-Operate structure, Bondada Engineering is responsible for developing and operating the awarded storage project in accordance with the applicable project agreements.

The newly established SPV provides a dedicated entity through which the project can be developed and managed. Its stated responsibilities include project financing, procurement, construction, commissioning, ownership, operation and maintenance.

The creation of the SPV should therefore be viewed as a project-development milestone, rather than evidence that construction or commissioning has already taken place.

Bondada’s official 2026 milestones identify the Hindupur project as a 225 MW/450 MWh standalone BESS project, with development under the BOO model and completion scheduled within 18 months from receipt of the LoA.

What Comes Next for the Project

With the project company now established, the Hindupur BESS project can progress through the development activities covered under its project agreements, including financing, procurement, construction and commissioning.

The project will ultimately add 450 MWh of energy-storage capacity to Andhra Pradesh’s power infrastructure once completed and commissioned.

The establishment of Bondada Hindupur BESS Project Private Limited therefore marks a move from the award stage toward a dedicated project-execution structure for one of Andhra Pradesh’s large standalone BESS projects.

Conclusion

Bondada Engineering’s incorporation of Bondada Hindupur BESS Project Private Limited marks an important corporate and project-development step for its 225 MW/450 MWh Hindupur BESS project.

Awarded by APTRANSCO under the BOO model and valued at approximately ₹627 crore, the project forms part of Andhra Pradesh’s broader 1,000 MW/2,000 MWh standalone BESS procurement. With a dedicated SPV now established, the project has a defined entity responsible for its financing, procurement, construction, commissioning, ownership, operation and maintenance in accordance with the project agreements.
