GE Vernova T&D India Limited has received a Letter of Award from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) for the design and establishment of a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) LCC Terminal Station. The terminal station, made up of two units of 3,000 MW each, is meant for the evacuation of renewable power from Barmer II to South Kalamb. The company disclosed the award to BSE and NSE on 4 November 2026.

What the filing says

In its filing, signed by Company Secretary Shweta Mehta, the company said the Letter of Award is dated 3 November 2026. It follows an earlier letter of 7 September 2026, in which GE Vernova T&D India informed the exchanges that it had received a letter from POWERGRID regarding its qualification as the L1 bidder for the same package.

The company and POWERGRID will execute the definitive agreement in due course. The filing was made under the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, under the subject line of intimation of bagging or receiving of orders and contracts. It does not state the contract value, the delivery schedule or any converter technology detail beyond the LCC (line-commutated converter) description, and those details are therefore not reported here.

Background: the Barmer II to South Kalamb corridor

The terminal station is one element of a larger transmission scheme. POWERGRID was declared the successful bidder for the inter-state transmission system that will evacuate 6 GW of solar power from the Barmer-II pooling station in Rajasthan, and received its Letter of Intent on 2 September 2026 after a tariff-based competitive bidding process coordinated by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited.

The system will link Barmer-II with South Kalamb in Maharashtra through an approximately 1,000-kilometre ±800 kV HVDC bipole line, supported by converter terminals, 400 kV links and synchronous condensers at Barmer-II. The line is intended to carry Rajasthan’s solar generation to demand centres beyond the state.

Orders for the project have been flowing to equipment and construction companies since POWERGRID’s win. On 26 October 2026, Jyoti Structures disclosed two POWERGRID notifications of award worth ₹949.35 crore, excluding GST, for the Rajasthan packages of the ±800 kV HVDC line. The GE Vernova T&D India award covers a different part of the scheme: the terminal station that will convert and feed power at the end of the line.

What it means for India’s clean-energy sector

HVDC corridors allow large volumes of power to move over long distances with lower losses than conventional alternating-current lines, which is why they are used to link renewable-rich states with distant load centres. Barmer II in Rajasthan is the starting point for 6 GW of solar power that is meant to reach Maharashtra.

The award shows the Barmer II to South Kalamb scheme moving from bidding into equipment orders. With the line packages and the terminal station both now awarded, the project has secured part of its supply chain. The contract value and delivery timelines of this award are not disclosed in the filing.
